Ms. Synhorst

If you weren't currently teaching, what would you be doing?
I would probably be an engineer or studying for another credential. I enjoy teaching and being around kids, so I might still get a multiple subject credential. I also want to go back to college to get a degree in special education and Spanish.

What aspect of LOHS are you looking forward to most?
I am looking forward to new experiences. I am used to working at middle schools, so this will all be new for me. I am looking forward to the football games as well. My family had a great love of football, and I missed seeing games while attending Chico State.

What made you decide that you want to work at LOHS?
I think having the opportunity to work at both the middle school and the high school was a big incentive for my working here. I get to see so many aspects of school life, and teach a wide variety of math levels. I also enjoy the family atmosphere that live oak has, especially as a staff member. Coming from Sacramento originally, I am not used to everyone knowing each other and caring about each other. I am looking forward to being able to work in such an amazing atmosphere.

What word describes you best and why?
I would say humorous. My students could already tell you, I enjoy trying to crack jokes to break up my math classes. I'm always entertained. By my students, by my colleagues, and by myself. (Often I'm the only one laughing at my jokes, but that's okay. I'll keep trying anyway. Life is more fun when you can laugh about it.)

Do you have an unique hobbies?
I like to lifeguard over the summer, so I guess that counts as a hobby. I also enjoy writing lyrics and music for the lyrics to go to. I can't play any instruments yet, but I enjoy singing my songs and finding chords that they go well with.

What kind of student were you in high school?
I was an oddball in high school. I took a lot of AP classes so I wouldn't have to pay for them in college, and played some sports (soccer and swim team). I also read a lot. And when I say a lot, I mean I could finish a several hundred page book in one day while sitting in classes.

Is there anything you want LOHS to know about you?
I played soccer for 15 years, and was a referee, so if there's a soccer game let me know. I'll happily root for our team.

What is your biggest pet peeve?
My biggest pet peeve is when students disrespect each other. I know that is kind of vague, but it is true. If a student is talking, their classmates should be supporting them and not putting them down. If they're taking a test, they should help each other create a quiet setting to test.
